Resume Suggestions
Here is
the way to structure your resume:
- Contact
information
This section should be at the top of the page and include
name, address, day and evening phone and email address. Pagers
and cell phone numbers are optional.
- A
clear objective
This should be a one or two sentence statement of the position
you are seeking in general terms. Too precise an objective
can cause an employer to not consider you for positions you
may well be interested in.
- Education
This section should list the university degrees you have obtained,
most recent first, with the name of the university, the date
the degree was awarded and the degree title (BS, MS, Phd)
and discipline. Your GPA should also appear here.
- Skills
list
This section should list the skills that qualify you for the
position you want. For example, a Software Engineer should
list the programming languages, platforms, operating systems
and tools he/she is adept with, a Mechanical Engineer should
list the types of products, CAD systems, and materials he/she
works with.
- Chronological
Experience
This section should list the positions you have held, the
company names and dates of employment, Each position should
have at least one paragraph explaining the duties of the position
and what skills were applied to accomplish them. Also list
any accomplishments associated with the position.
- Professional
affiliations
This section should list all professional affiliations, with
dates. Do not include your hobbies.
- References
This section should read "Available on Request". You can include
names and numbers on your resume, but it is better to provide
them ONLY if you have discussed your job search with each
one and obtained their permission to use them as references
